Map Pedometer - How far did you go?

long time user of the map, when on the Run/Walk option, I cannot create a route. I can on the other three. even if I start on Cycle and move back to run/walk, the error will pop up, "Unable to route to selected point." used the site last week with no errors. using Chrome, restarted, reboot...
